The Mount St Helens Creation Center is offering a number of local field trips for homeschool groups, and / or Christian school groups. See the individual field guide pages, for details of suggested donations, and educational material.

However, the most popular option for homeschool and Christian school groups is to organize a private, tailored version of our main West Side Excursion. Click on the links to see details of our regular excursion, which can be adapted for your purposes.

Harry's Ridge Hike @ Mount St Helens Creation Center

This is an experimental hike, on the new public trail to Harry’s Ridge. There is no charge for this trip, because I haven’t tried it out myself, and there could be problems leading us to turn back.

We will leave the Creation Center at 9am and drive straight to the Johnstone Ridge Observatory. Then we will hike along the boundary trail, and on to the new public trail to Harry’s Ridge, which should afford good views of Spirit Lake.

I anticipate the hike will take 4 hours. You will need walking footwear, a small backpack, a bag lunch, and plenty of water – possibly a half-gallon, if you can carry it.

Please let us know in advance if you are doing this hike.

Bad weather might lead to a change of plans.
